In honor of Dr. Musa Haxhiu's passion for junior faculty development and contribution to the SNRP program this years' poster competition is renamed the Haxhiu-N.E.U.R.O.N Travel Award.
This is an exciting opportunity to further engage junior researchers in the meeting and enhance their development as scientists.
Eligibility
Research trainees whose faculty advisor is a member of the SNRP community and who fit within one of the following categories are invited to submit an abstract for poster presentation:
- Undergraduate Students
- Graduate Students
- Medical Students
- MD-PhD Students
- Postdoctoral Researchers
Posters presented at national meetings or other venues are eligible for submission, provided the research was conducted at the SNRP research facility.
Only one poster will be eligible for judging.
Posters will be judged on 6 different criteria:
- Organization - Overall appearance of poster; visuals and text are easy to read and logically organized
- Background - Explained hypotheses; objectives and rationale are clear and concise
- Methods - Understandable explanation of procedures; techniques are reasonable, appropriate, and clear
- Results - Statistical/data analysis explained, reasonable for techniques employed, logical, and clear
- Conclusions - supported by results, logical, and clear
- Discussion - Ability to describe the work, explain material, and answer questions in a concise and clear manner
The judging staff will include SNRP faculty, visiting researchers, and NINDS staff. We would like thank the judges in advance for volunteering and providing their scientific feedback to the junior researchers. On the day of the poster presentation, Thursday, August 21, from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m., the judges will review their assigned posters and complete a score sheet on each poster. Each poster will be assigned at least two different judges. The score sheets will then be tallied, and the competition will be narrowed to 6 finalists, 3 grads and 3 post docs. Finalists will then deliver a 10 minute power point presentation on Friday, August 22, from 1:30pm-2:45pm
All eligible poster presenters should be prepared in advance with a power point presentation in the event of selection as a finalist.
A poster abstract must be presented for all posters. Refer to the ABSTRACTS link in the upper left side of this webpage for submission information.
The travel award is generously provided by AAAS Arctic Division. The award will be used for attendance at the Society for Neuroscience meeting, to cover specific meeting and travel costs up to $2,000. The Society for Neuroscience has also agreed to include the Haxhiu-N.E.U.R.O.N winner in several events including the Annual Minority Reception, the Mentor/Fellow Breakfast, the Annual Diversity Fellows Poster Session, and the Mentoring Program Reception, where the Haxhiu-N.E.U.R.O.N. awardee will be matched with a more senior scientist/mentor who has similar research interests.
We look forward to viewing the new, exciting, and unique research on neuroscience by these promising researchers! Please plan to attend the poster session and participate in the voting process at the oral presentation session.
